AI=The Paid Enemy
Marketing Trends
This article may seem to be a bit odd as this time We’d suggest to rather go “oldschool” against the trends. Let’s see why We came to this conclusion. Everybody see the enourmus amount of AI ads on social media, that promises less work more profit better results faster turn around and everything else one could ever dreamed of. This is pure marketing and is from the worst type of the cheap sellout trend. Why? Most of them simply outsourcing chat gpt and rebranding it, or it also happens with Midjourney, what they offer is an interface with ready to use promts, like the same VST plugin only with a new skin, but basicly nothing changed. The advertising style is so horribly awful that it works as a filter to only engage people how are sorry to say that but are too dumb to see through the lies. Eversince the internet market boom this phenomenon is present and a part of our lives.
Music Business
Okay now here is where We turn to music business. The amount of scams with AI mastering services and alikes use the same methods, they promise very good results but at the end it is just slapping on a limiter and an eq, based on algorythms not on artistic choices. The problem with this is that the amount of time one needs to findout how to use these and what to feed them with to make the outcome acceptable, compared to a mix done by a real engineer is far more than it should be. We often hear that loading a mix into an AI mastering platform won’t give outstanding results so the client will try to reverse engineer what should be tweaked in the mix before doing a second run. All this human resource work is aimed to correcting the AI perfomance. From a business side of view if We factor in a fair hour rate for the artist than AI processing will clearly become to be more expensive, than using an engineer.
This problem is present not only with mastering but with any creative usecase scenario with AI processes where a human needs to approve the work. Spending time with checking for errors and fix them takes too much human resources. A lot of cheapout marketing agent using chatgpt to generate posts, that are basicly boring topics with midjourney pics as thumbs and aiming to build an online presence by posting regularly. This is a big mistake, as a professional writer could drive the attention by using tactics to generate feelings thus pull in the reader and give a real experience for the audience of reading a real human beings opinion and work on a topic that was consciously choosen and had a good amount of background and fact check before publishing, obviously an expert on the case already have these therefore it takes much less time to write about anything that is realated. The only problem with this is that a human will have feelings and opinion about a topic, that will be translated into the article as a natural progress of expressing and sharing thaughts. This is why the audience should read not only one magazine but give attention to other related ones too as it is always good to have more opinion and info on a topic.
