The Youtube Problem
History
Back in the days Youtube was the revolutionary new platfrom free from toxic internet advertising and because of that it was a refreshing oasis for content creators and consumers escaping the old boring world of never ending television ad blocks. Sadly today it is no more the case. The capitalist world, driven wild by unbridled inflation, came to the point of putting a pricetag on everything. This includes the freedom to watch what you really want. I’m not only talking about the sophisticated method of unskippable advertisements during/before/after the video you’d wish to enjoy, but the fact that most of the content creators became the finest manufacturers of hidden advertising by slaving them selfes to companies. The proof of this behavior can be recognized by the following clues:
– affilate links
– sponsored videos
– unpurchased product review
– competition with entry fee
– workshop with featured product
– brand promotion videos
All these are essential income streams for a full time content creator, but wait a minute isn’t Youtube already paying after the number of views of a video? Well yes but from year to year the amount of payout was decreasing and as time passed by this has became a famous business and got oversaturated with creators thus further lowering the realisticly avaliable income. That is why every “professional” youtuber also has some of the following alternative income streams too:
– selling own presets
– selling own courses
– buy me coffe
– patreon
– youtube membership
– 101 consultation
The Problem
Because all of the above Youtube became an increasingly unenjoyable environment where every single minute someone is aiming at you to sell something, with the well known overpushed wornout slogans of making your life rich/happy/succesful and the list goes on…
Sadly over the years it has become the exact opposite of it’s inital promise. Just like facebook where you see more ads than your friends content, or We could say Netflix where the quality is so much worse than a ripped movie, and oh hey there is Spotify where your favorite tracks just dissapear from your playlist. The streaming service industry became a huge disappointment. On top of that everybody is dumping a bucket of money on search engines just to favour their “content” so they could earn more. This resulted in huge rise of ad costs that drives the greed even more. The worst part is that search engines no longer work as they should be because paid “results” overwrite real findings. Now mix that with AI content generation and you’ll get the perfect recepie for a complete dead internet where you can no longer trust anyone.
The solution
After people realise that tech giants basically destroyed online business for most of us companies will return to the good old recepie and go local instead of trying to reach way further over the internet. Of course newcomers will fall into this trap first so there will be always someone feeding this market. Us content consumers will have to be very conscious upon selecting a creator that is really worth our time. It may sound funny but We have to learn how to recognise fake creators who only want to sell and the ones who creates guided by an honest inner drive. Fortunately, all is not lost and we can still find valuable creators.
