Mastering Limiter 2.0
After seven years the world famous analog limiter became even better.
All new and redesigned circuitry ensures highest quality audio processing. Let’s see what We gained from the update:
- Faster release time gives more flexibility. The previous insanely fast 10ms timing is now up to 2ms.
- Color engine gets Mid/Side matrix this opens up a whole lot of processing possibilites.
- HPF on detector to prevent pumping, this is very useful to avoid squashing your beats.
- Mid Boost, todays common problem is the overbaked disco smile this can fix it instantly.
- Clipping engine got extended to saturation duties too, again a huge lift in sound design
Now the big question: are We preordered already? 🙂
Nope.
But Why???
As we already used our trusty analog equipment in mid/side mode including our Bettermaker Mastering Limiter We pretty much did all the tricks that just got implemented in the new version.
Ok but how?
Well our Elysia Mpressor is already has a fixed 80hz HPF on its detector plus it has the autofast feature which is basically the same as the Intelligent Release but on the attack times, so applying it before the limiter is a good choice. If it comes to coloring we can use the Neve 542 to push the sound with the Neve console sound saturation again in mid/side processing, and doing it before the limiting is a vise choice because saturation tends to shave off the transients so the limiter will have a much easier job so it won’t introduce pumping. When it comes to saturation We have the option to to this in the Elysia Mpressor with its THD feature too, or We can use our API550b with high gain to get a different flavor. If mid boost is required there is nothing better than the API550b it is a legend so We can tick that trick too from the list. As it apperars We and Bettermaker are very much like on the same page when it comes to mastering tasks! Of course We plan to upgrade because the faster We can work the better results We get before getting tired and this is the key.
